| President
Thomas Jefferson made French-fried potatoes a fashionable dish.
Jefferson served as American minister to France in the late 1780s
and grew very fond of the pommes frites (French fries) he so often
enjoyed in Paris. When he returned home in 1789, he brought the
recipe with him and later served French-friend potatoes to guests
at White House dinners.
