Spanish
explorers brought Navajo Churro sheep to America over 400
years ago. The rare breed’s wool comes in white, black,
gray, and all shades of brown. Some of the rams have four
large horns—two that curve out of the top of their heads
and two that curve around their faces like giant letter “Cs.”
Women of the Navajo tribe make dyes from plants, berries,
tree bark, and wild walnut shells. They color the long wavy
wool, spin it, and weave it by hand into beautiful rugs and
saddle blankets.
