Abraham
Lincoln
Most
of us know that Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of
the United States. And that he built the Republican Party
into a strong organization. And even that he was reelected
to serve a second term only to be assassinated a year later.
But did you know that Abe's mother died when
he was only ten? Or that he only went to school a few weeks
of his entire life because he had to work on his father's
farm? Or that his first job was splitting wooden rails for
fences?
Still Abe worked hard and learned how to read
and write. Maybe that's why he believed that anyone (no matter
what race, religion, or gender) could do anything they set their
mind to.
Famous Quote from Honest Abe:
"Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth
on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated
to the proposition that all men are created equal." Lincoln's
Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863.
